What gardening gifts would you buy if you were given $250?

December 13, 2013 by James Early 1 Comment

Gardening presents at ChristmasUsually around Christmas time, there are videos on Facebook about “Secret Santas” randomly giving out money to people. Sometimes it’s 50 bucks but sometimes it’s hundreds of dollars to help someone buy presents for their family or just to pay the mortgage.

Well, I have good news and bad news.

Which do you want first? The bad news? Okay. The bad news is that I don’t have hundreds of dollars to give to you for Christmas.

The good news is that we’re going to pretend a Secret Santa just gave you a $250 Amazon gift card. And there’s still plenty of time to order some gifts and have them arrive before Christmas.

Let’s also pretend that you’ve decided on a gardening theme for all your gifts this year.

Here’s the fun

It’s time to do your “shopping.” You’ve got one hour. What will you get for yourself and what will you get for your friends? It can be anything garden-related: books, tools, seeds, accessories, supplies, etc.

You can get as many products as you like as long as they total $250 or less. Just to keep things simple, don’t worry about adding in taxes or shipping.

For some garden gift ideas, a good place to start is this page from Amazon Garden gifts.

So have some fun with this. Post your list of goodies in the comment section below.

Here’s the list I came up with:

Grow herbs in the winter on your kitchen counter

Miracle-Gro AeroGarden ULTRA Indoor Garden with Gourmet Herb Seed Pod Kit: $199.95

I think it would be so cool to have one of these  on my kitchen counter during the winter.

Four Season Harvest by Eliot Coleman  Four-Season Harvest: Organic Vegetables from Your Home Garden All Year Long, 2nd Edition: $16.75

I have loved all his books and would love to have this new edition with all his new ideas for home gardeners.

The Backyard HomesteadThe Backyard Homestead: Produce all the food you need on just a quarter acre! by Carleen Madigan: $15.39

I always love to learn how to get more food out of a small plot of ground.

Crabtree and Evelyn: Gardeners Hand Therapy Crabtree & Evelyn 2792 Gardeners Hand Therapy (100g, 3.5 oz)
$22.99 I have tiny bit left of this and I need some more. It is GREAT for my hand after gardening.

Well, I went over the $250 amount by $5.08.  Oh well. What would you pick?

Hope you get what you want for Christmas!

James
