best way to control mosquitos, best way to get rid of mosquitos, controlling mosquitos, It’s a beautiful early evening and you’re out on the deck enjoying a meal with friends and family. Or maybe you’re in the yard taking in the peace and quiet.

Then you hear that faint but all too familiar buzz of a mosquito in your ear. Or you feel that little prick on the back of your neck.

Why do those pesky mosquitoes always have to ruin a perfectly good evening outside?

Well they don’t.

When I was a kid, we used all kinds of bug spray without giving it a second thought. That stuff was nasty, loaded with harmful chemicals. Harmful to people and the environment. Lots of bug repellent today still contains DEET and who knows what else that is not good for us.

Controlling mosquitoes organically

Fortunately there are some organic options.

Here’s a quick video from Peaceful Valley Farm and Garden Supply with some helpful ideas.

There are several key points to keep in mind:

  • Get rid of any standing water in your yard or garden (that’s where mosquitoes breed)
  • You can reduce the mosquito population in your yard with repellents that are safe for your soil, ornamentals, edibles, and most important of all, you and your family
  • Get a bat  house for your yard. One bat can eat up to 5,000 insects per night
  • For your pets, use repellent specifically for your animals. If you use spray for humans, when they groom their fur, they will ingest it. Not good!
  • READ the labels and follow instructions carefully

Here are a few products I recommend:
